Nailinda Pad Bank

Sanitary pads are expensive products in Kenya, it costs about Ksh. 80, which is $0.80, to buy one packet of sanitary pads which carry 8 pieces; in fact 65% of Kenyan women cannot afford sanitary pads. We still have people who survive on under a dollar so sanitary pads are a luxury to them. A few sad facts that Kenya still faces are:


  1. Some women have traded sex for sanitary products. Shockingly, two out of three feminine pad users in rural Kenya receive their products from sexual partners. Perhaps the saddest outcome of how period poverty affects women in Kenya is the fact that these women exchange sex in return for feminine products, sometimes at ages as young as 13.

  2. 10% of school girls do not attend school when they are in their periods. Because of the culture of shame surrounding menstruation, girls often miss school while menstruating since they do not have the proper products to deal with their period. Very few girls receive education about their period before it begins and according to recent research many girls are misinformed.

From January 1st 2021, Nailinda will be starting a service called Pad Bank which will be available from our USSD platform.

What is Pad Bank?

Pad Bank is a service that allows ladies to get sanitary towels while they are in their periods. You will be able to get a packet of sanitary towels, and we will be able to give you a choice between 3 brands.

Why Pad Bank?


We believe that sanitary pads should be readily available for women, especially school girls. We try to make this basic commodity available to girls, main preference given to school girls so that we can be able to keep them in school.

How can someone access the Pad Bank?


We advise any lady who wants to get pads to access the service through the app/ USSD service so that we can prepare your sanitary towels before you arrive, your location will determine where you will be able to pick them which will be sent to you via text message. Due to the current rise in COVID-19 cases we would not like to have a crowd at our pick up locations.
